The five years of storytelling also got the attention of our peers, and we won four national communications awards from the Council on Foundations (2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.) Storytelling continues at Smarter Schools, with forthcoming work at projects focusing on innovations that inspire educators to learn new ways
of teaching that better serve children. Come back to hear more stories.               - Andrew Benson

Educators fight to keep their dreams alive as they introduce small schools in a hard-hit urban district. One of five in series, Every Student Deserves a Legacy 2008.
Nearly a decade ago, I created a storytelling initiative at KnowledgeWorks Foundation to show how educators were taking on the challenge of finding new ways to teach students. What we got were compelling stories of change, from Toledo to Dayton to Cleveland Heights, considerable attention from the news media, and greater understanding from community members and other stakeholders. That helped the initiatives creating small high-performing high schools to have the time and space to succeed.
